NAYGN Announcements:

 

1.       Welcome to the 14th Annual NAYGN Drawing Contest! This years’ theme is “Roddy Nuclear Builds Tomorrow” – with an emphasis on the importance of new plant construction for the future of nuclear and growing energy demands.  All drawing contest materials are available on the NAYGN website, PI committee page.  Each chapter will need to host their area contests and submit their top 10 drawings by 10/26/12 electronically to Laura DiPinto (laura.dipinto@ge.com).  Voting will take place online this year via the Clean Energy Insight website (www.cleanenergyinsight.org ). The top 5 drawings will also be showcased at the 2012 ANS Conference in San Diego, CA, November 11-15, 2012, and winners will be announced by 12/1/12!  Please contact Laura DiPinto with any questions. 2.       Canadian NAYGN will be hitting the Hill this year October 1st for their second annual NU Energy Hill Day.  Companies from across Canada will be meeting in Ottawa, Ontario for meetings with Parliamentarians to provide key messages and a fresh perspective to Nuclear in Canada!

 

3.       Past, Present, and Future in Nuclear. On November 8th and 9th NA-YGN invites you to a Professional Development Segment and Tour of Canada’s national nuclear laboratories! Atomic Energy of Canada Limited is opening its doors to NA-YGN! If you are interested in an excellent opportunity for professional development and networking register at  http://www.aecl.ca/Contact/Visit_Registration.htm It’s FREE!!!!, but you must register for site access clearance. 4.      NAYGN members- please show your support of nuclear. There is an online poll being conducted by the Wall Street Journal regarding the future of nuclear energy. According to the Journal, "The global appetite for energy is growing rapidly as the population climbs and economies in the developing world quicken their ascent. Yet at the same time, oil, coal and other fossil fuels that meet the bulk of the world’s energy needs generate carbon emissions linked to climate change and its potentially harmful effects."  

 

5.       IYNC2012 professional development and plenary presentations are now posted.  For the technical paper summaries, conference participants should refer to the download instructions in their conference agendas.

 

6.      Curtiss-Wright and SONGs chapters are beginning to plan out their proposal for a regional event in the west.  A conference call is being scheduled for the coming weeks to discuss in more detail.  usa@na-ygn.org

 

7.       Mothers in Nuclear -  Please share your insights and humorous stories about being a mother dealing with plant life. Submissions for this month's edition are due by September 30 and should be emailed to Mcandrew@na-ygn.org.

9.      NAYGN is currently looking for a few good men and women- the following positions are open:

Publications Chair. NAYGN is looking for a tech savvy member to help with the posting and editing of articles and other content to the NAYGN website. Interested parties please contact Jana Thames, communications chair.   

Assistant Webmaster. Are you web-savvy?  Do you want to see NAYGN develop an excellent website?  We need your help.  Please contact Jana Thames, communications chair.

Public Information committee –general committee members and regional points of contact for communicationsWe are looking for members who are interested in getting more involved in advocacy-type activities, and members who are interested in helping to coordinate advocacy-type communications across their NAYGN region.  Interested?  Contact Morgan Davis, public information chair.

Chapter Health committee membersDo you have chapter leadership experience?  We are looking for a team of current and veteran local chapter leaders who have some passion around helping NAYGN chapters thrive.  Contact Duncan Robinson, past president.
