NA-YGN Announcements:

 

1.       IYNC 2012 Call For Papers! The IYNC 2012 conference will supplement NA-YGN’s annual professional development conference with several technical tracks. Young professionals and students from around the world will have the opportunity to present their research papers to an audience of their peers. The deadline for summaries is January 15st. See the flyer or visit www.iync.org for more information. 2.      Please take a moment to vote in the Virginian-Pilot's online pollhttp://hamptonroads.com/polls/do-you-support-plan-mine-uranium-virginia. The poll asks if you support plans to mine uranium in Virginia. 

 

3.       Do you have a story idea? Go Nuke is currently looking for writers for the Winter edition. If your chapter is doing something of interest and you have a story idea or are interested in writing, please email communications@na-ygn.org or thames@na-ygn.org.

 

4.      Share your conference ideas!!!! NA-YGN is looking for Workshop Ideas for the NA-YGN’s 2012 Professional Development conference “IYNC2012” Please submit your ideas by November 18, 2011 to workshops@iync.org.

 

5.       Save the Date: National Nuclear Science Week (NNSW) is January 23 to 27, 2012. You can learn more about this celebration at the NNSW website. http://www.nuclearscienceweek.org/  

 

6.      The World Nuclear University(WNU) is inviting NA-YGN members to participate in the World Nuclear University School on Radiation Technologies (RT School) taking place in Daejeon, Korea (13 May – 1 June 2012). The RT School will be based on the format of the WNU Summer Institute, but with a program focused on the non-power applications of nuclear technology. The curriculum has been developed in close cooperation with the IAEA’s Department for Nuclear Applications and the World Council on Isotopes. Click here to download the full announcement. Please note that some professionals from developing countries will be eligible for IAEA assistance. Applicants seeking such assistance should return their application form to WNU Coordinating Centre, bsjeong@world-nuclear-university.org,no later than 28 October 2011. Applicants funded by their employer should return their form no later than 13 January 2012.

 

7.       The U.S. Department of Energy has recently proposed a regulation that governs the export of peaceful nuclear technology, including for the production of electricity, to the multi-billion dollar global market. This proposed change could:  

Adversely impact competitiveness of U.S. nuclear suppliers,

Disrupt existing commercial arrangements between U.S. manufacturers and their overseas customers,

Create additional administrative burdens

Significantly slow down the number of jobs created and brought in to U.S.

8.      NA-YGN is looking for a new Membership Chair. The position requires the chair to be very familiar with Excel. If you are interested please contact the Communication Chair at communications@na-ygn.org. The responsibilities of the Membership Chair include-

1.      Provide membership lists to chapter chairs.

2.      Act as the administrator for the membership database.

3.      Work with the Webmaster to make changes to the database or the membership portion of the website.

4.      Chair the membership committee, if needed.

5.      Represent the membership committee on the Chapter Health and Diversity Committee.

6.     Provide any member information to chapter chairs or the Communications Chair.

7.      Help any Core member with any other membership related initiatives.

8.     Send out a welcome package within the first 30 days a new member joins.
