NA-YGN Announcements:

 

1.       IYNC 2012 Call For Papers! The IYNC 2012 conference will supplement NA-YGN’s annual professional development conference with several technical tracks. Young professionals and students from around the world will have the opportunity to present their research papers to an audience of their peers. The deadline for summaries is January 15st. See the flyer or visit www.iync.org for more information. 2.      Go Nuke is currently looking for writers for the Winter edition. If your chapter is doing something of interest and you have a story idea or are interested in writing, please email communications@na-ygn.org or thames@na-ygn.org.

 

3.        It's almost survey time!  The NA-YGN benchmarking committee will be conducting a member survey at the end of January, 2012, and we need everyone's participation.  This survey will be an update to the 2008 NA-YGN Career Survey.  For past NA-YGN surveys, see http://www.na-ygn.org/voiceofygn/ Look for the link to the new survey in a future membership announcement.   

 

4.      Local Chapter End of Year Reports Are Coming Due!  The local chapter EOY reports are due on January 13th.   Information about EOY reports and the report template can be found on the NA-YGN website: End of year reports.  Local Chapter Leads should send all completed reports to their regional lead and their affairs chair (usa@na-ygn.org or canada@na-ygn.org).

 

5.       NA-YGN is currently looking for webinar ideas. If you have any suggestions, please contact pd@na-ygn.org.

 

6.      National Nuclear Science Week (NNSW) is January 23 to 27, 2012.  NA-YGN encourages chapters to celebrate with us on January 27, 2012 by doing public outreach activities and celebrating nuclear science within your chapters.  Chapters that participate in NNSW activities and post them on www.cleanenergyinsight.org are eligible to win a Roddy Costume for their chapter.

 

7.       On January 25, 2012, 7 p.m. – 8 p.m. EST, Excelsior College will host a special event webinar in recognition of National Nuclear Science Week focusing on the role of professional organizations in furthering career advancement for women in the nuclear field. The panel will feature Margaret Harding of the American Nuclear Society, Erin West of North American Young Generation in Nuclear, and Tennessee Valley Authority’s Coleen Ware. 8.      Public Information is looking for volunteers!  There are volunteer opportunities in the following areas: Student Education, IYNC Outreach Workshop, Social Media, Clean Energy Insight, and Regional Outreach.  Levels of participation vary from writing a blog about your chapter to leading an initiative across North America!  Please contact Morgan Davis at davis@na-ygn.com if you are interested in volunteering.

 

9.      Vote for your favorite drawing from the 2011 NA-YGN drawing contest!  NA-YGN members used Roddy’s adventures to present the benefits of nuclear energy to over 1,000 4th and 5th grade students in this year’s contest. Students were asked to submit drawings inspired by the theme “Roddy Nuclear Powers the World“  and what they learned during the presentations.  Please take a few minutes to support our participating students and submit a vote by January 13, 2012.  The winner will be announced during National Nuclear Science Week.  NA-YGN would like to thank all of its participating members along with all of the educators who contributed to the success of this year’s contest.

 

10.   Nominations – NA-YGN is now accepting nominations for Vice President, Professional Development Chair, Treasurer and Canadian Affairs Chair. Position descriptions can be found in the NA-YGN Bylaws. Candidates can either self-nominate, or be nominated. Nominations will be accepted until January 30, 2012. 11.   +One – The American Nuclear Society (ANS) is now accepting nominations for their committees. This is a great opportunity for NA-YGN members to grow professionally. If you are also an ANS member, you are encouraged to apply for these technical committees as part of NA-YGN’s +One program.
