2.     The Future of Nuclear Power Needs YOU!  NA-YGN will be attending and making public comments at the Blue Ribbon Commission meeting on January 7, 2011 in Augusta, GA.  The meeting will be held at the Augusta Marriott Riverwalk hotel from 8 am to 4 pm.  If you live in the area and are able to attend please contact Morgan Davis.  We would like as much NA-YGN support there as possible to help field questions from the community and advocate for sustainable used fuel management strategy.  Attendees will learn a lot from interacting with the community and learn about nuclear related issues from the panel speakers.  Can’t go to the meeting?  The meeting will be webcasted live and they are accepting written public comments for the Commission’s consideration.  Please check out the Blue Ribbon Commission website link below for the agenda and webcast link and feel free to utilized our Clean Energy Insight website to post your blog on the topic.

3.     Attention NA-YGN Chapter Leads:  Local Chapter End of Year Reports are due to your regional lead and/or affairs chair by January 14, 2011!  Click here for the report template.  The NA-YGN Core requests that all local chapters keep track of their Professional Development and Public Information activities and submit a report each year.  The purpose of this is to track how many hours the organization as a whole is contributing to NA-YGN activities and events.  Keeping track of this information is of great benefit to NA-YGN because it allows the organization to demonstrate the positive contributions that we are making in our companies and in North America.  Questions?  Please contact zaitz@na-ygn.org

4.     Are you looking for a new opportunity within NA-YGN?  Two regional lead positions are now open –Atlantic and Southeast.  Regional Leads focus on supporting new chapters and organizing regional events.  They act as the primary interface with the local chapter leads and the Affairs Chairs.  To learn more about regional leads and what they do, please read our charter and/or get in touch with your current regional lead – Chris Hearn, Southeast; Muhammad Fahmy, Atlantic.  If you are in one of these regions and are interested in being the Atlantic or Southeast regional lead, please send a resume and a short description of why you’re interested in the position to Kristin Zaitz, US Affairs Chair by January 21, 2011.

5.     National Nuclear Science Week - The 2nd Annual National Nuclear Science Week will take place the week of January 24, 2011. The event will be a national, broadly observed week-long celebration to advance public awareness of the benefits of nuclear science and technology. The NA-YGN Public Information Committee is encouraging local chapters to plan outreach activities during that week by offering a $500 voucher for NA-YGN clothing to the chapter who conducts the most impressive activity.
