NA-YGN Announcements:

1.       IYNC 2012 Call For Papers! The IYNC 2012 conference will supplement NA-YGN’s annual professional development conference with several technical tracks. Young professionals and students from around the world will have the opportunity to present their research papers to an audience of their peers. The deadline for summaries is January 15st. See the flyer or visit www.iync.org for more information. Click here for summary submission guidelines.  Please forward the Call for Papers flyer to your colleagues! Please contact excom@na-ygn.org for any questions.

2.      The Power of Asking Questions – A new dynamic learning activity (DLA) designed to help young professionals capture tacit knowledge is now available.  Guidelines and Power Point are on the NA-YGN website. This DLA allows young professionals to practice asking questions while attempting to build a Lego log cabin. Please contact kt@na-ygn.org for more information or to borrow Lego kits to run this activity.

3.       Local Chapter End of Year Reports Are Coming Due!  The local chapter EOY reports are due on January 13th.  Please help your chapter complete those reports before your holiday vacation.  Information about EOY reports and the report template can be found on the NA-YGN website: End of year reports.  Local Chapter Leads should send all completed reports to their regional lead and their affairs chair (usa@na-ygn.org or canada@na-ygn.org).

4.      Save the Date: National Nuclear Science Week (NNSW) is January 23 to 27, 2012. You can learn more about this celebration at the NNSW website. http://www.nuclearscienceweek.org/

5.       The U.S. Department of Energy has recently proposed a regulation that governs the export of peaceful nuclear technology, including for the production of electricity, to the multi-billion dollar global market. This proposed change could:

Adversely impact competitiveness of U.S. nuclear suppliers,

Disrupt existing commercial arrangements between U.S. manufacturers and their overseas customers,

Create additional administrative burdens

Significantly slow down the number of jobs created and brought in to U.S.

Please send click the link below to send your comment letter to the Department of Energy today and express your concerns. The comment period closes December 7, 2011 . TAKE ACTION

6.      The NA-YGN mission of promoting nuclear science and technology could not be achieved without the efforts of the members.  The energy from all of our members is what makes local chapters, committees and the core successful.  The NA-YGN Awards Committee is currently looking for members to participate in the 2011-2012 selection process.  If you are interested in being part of the committee team please let Nolan Coward (ncoward@entergy.com) know.
