NAYGN Announcements:

 

 

1.       The slate of candidates for the 2013 NAYGN Core Officer Election has been determined!  Vice-President, US Affairs Chair, Public Information Chair, and Communications Chair are all up for election and will be contested by a group of excellent candidates.  To learn a bit more about who you will be voting for this year, please visit http://naygn.org/about-us/positions-needed/ to read about the candidates or listen to the recording of the February 14th, webinar.

 

2.      Save the Date - Hill Day Webinar!  Please join us on April 25 from 3 pm to 4 pm EST for an overview of the Hill Day activities for the 2013 NAYGN Conference.  Even if you do not plan to attend the conference, please consider attending.  The webinar will provide information about government affairs and recommendations for how young professionals can become advocates to policy makers about the benefits from nuclear science and technology.  Please mark your calendars for the webinar.  Registration details will be provided in the coming weeks at www.naygn.org.

 

3.       Register to attend the 2013 NAYGN Professional Development Conference.  The 2013 North American Young Generation in Nuclear (NAYGN) annual workshop will be held May 12-14 in Washington, D.C. The theme for this year's workshop is "Securing the Future of Nuclear: Safety, Technology and Leadership."  Space is limited for sessions, so please register early to have your choice of session.  To register, please visit: http://www.nei.org/newsandevents/conferencesandmeetings/naygn

 

4.      Volunteer at NAYGN Professional Development Conference – Get Involved!  Are you planning to attend the NAYGN Professional Development conference in May? We need your help! The NAYGN Professional Development Committee is seeking volunteers to write about their experiences at the conference.   Volunteers will be asked to take pictures during the sessions, help summarize the sessions, and provide their overall perspectives about the conference.  If interested in this opportunity, please contact Alejandra Villarreal at avillarr@bechtel.comThank you!

 

5.       Welcome to our newest chapter, Enercon-Naperville! The third Enercon chapter kicked off in the last year!

 

6.      Career Fair Volunteers Needed – NAYGN will be sponsoring a booth at the upcoming National Society of Black Engineers conference in Indianapolis, IN on March 28, 29 and 30. Two complimentary registrations are available to NAYGN members interested in working the career fair. If interested, contact Sushank Saha at  randr@na-ygn.org.

 

7.       NAYGN members, do you have great events or activities going on in your NAYGN chapter that are worth sharing with the rest of your NAYGN peers? The NAYGN official website (www.naygn.org) is always looking for more content from our many chapters so that we are better informed and connected. If your chapter has a story to share, please email it to communications@na-ygn.org and do include pictures. These materials will be used to populate our website blog and may be referenced/duplicated on our Twitter, Facebook, and LinkedIn pages. We look forward to hearing about your great work.

 

8.      Do you want to recognize the excellent work that someone or a group of “someones” have done in 2012. It is now time to show your appreciation. Recommend them NOW for an award. The awards are listed below https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/SK5JDBS. Award nominations close on Feb 25th.

 

Excellence Award: This award is given to individuals or groups who have put in significant effort to accomplish NA-YGN’s mission.

•Future Award: NA-YGN wants to recognize the efforts of an individual, or a group that best exemplifies the mission of NA-YGN to prepare and plan for the future of the young generation in the field of nuclear science and technology in an innovative or unique way.

Founder’s Award: In 1999, seven people set forth to create an organization that embodied the spirit of young professionals in the nuclear industry. Their goal was to provide an organization that united these young professionals who believe in nuclear science and technology and are working together throughout North America to share their passion. This is the highest award given by NA-YGN to an individual. It is presented to a member of NA-YGN who exemplifies the efforts of the organization’s Founders.

 

9.      North American Young Generation in Nuclear is now soliciting student applications to attend the 2013 Professional Development Workshop, to be held May 12-14 in Washington D.C.

 

Whose Eligible: Any student currently enrolled in a nuclear related curriculum.

 

Scholarship Includes:   Airfare

4-nights in the Grand Hyatt Hotel

Workshop Registration

 

Interested students should submit the following to Elizabeth McAndrew-Benavides no later than 5pm EDT on March 8, 2013.

A.       A current copy of your resume.

B.        Cover Letter that includes your:

1.            Current and Permanent Address

2.            Telephone Number

3.            Email Address

4.            Name of the Community College or University you attend

5.            Focus of Study (the degree or major you are working to complete)

6.            Nuclear Reference (Name and contact information for a professor or industry employee who suggested the student applies for the scholarship)

7.            3-5 paragraphs on why you should be selected to attend the workshop.
